Official Tournament Statement

United Sports and Maryland SoccerPlex would like to thank all participants in the 2009 All American Showcase-Capitol Cup Lacrosse tournament for their patience and support through some challenging circumstances. Due to the heavy amounts of rain in the area in June, and specifically, the accumulation of more than ½ inch of rain in a short amount of time on the morning of, Saturday, June 20, 2009, the Maryland Soccerplex closed all grass fields for the remainder of the day. In addition, the fields at Muldoon Farms were limited and closed Saturday afternoon for the remainder of the weekend.

In consultation with the IWLCA and Maryland SoccerPlex, tournament management revised the Sunday Schedule and tried to offer all Capitol teams 3 games and Red and White division teams at least 2 games. The Blue division was cancelled on Thursday Evening when Muldoon Farms closed 4 fields.

The Maryland SoccerPlex grass fields are pristine and maintained at top quality. The tournament management respects the decision of the SoccerPlex to close the fields and reopen on Sunday. The safety of all parties, athletes, college coaches, spectators, umpires, vendors and tournament personnel is our primary concern, and the quality of the playing venue is a very important part of our event. The beautiful full size fields give all the athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents, and the college coaches are afforded the opportunity to view games that are competitive and played under the best possible conditions. In addition, it is a priority of the event management to try and distribute playing opportunities as fairly as possible within divisions. The event staff will evaluate the decisions made in 2009 and make any changes needed for future events.

We are currently in the process of starting the refund paperwork. This process will take several weeks to complete. We will post an update on the status of refunds no later than Friday, July 10.

Thank you again for your patience and support!

Sincerely,

United Sports Management
